MOBILE, ALA. – Sunday, August 21, 2011 – North Carolina teams won half of the titles at the 2011 USTA Southern Jr. Team Tennis Section Championships Sunday.
North Carolina had four champions and one finalist, with two titlists coming from Wilmington. Georgia won two titles and had six finalists. Arkansas and Tennessee had a champion each.
The winning teams from the 14-and-under and 18-and-under levels won the right to represent the USTA Southern Section at the 2011 USTA Jr. Team Tennis National Championships in October. The 14-and-under Advanced team from Mooresville, N.C. will also advance to the national championship because USTA Southern received a wild card for that level. There are no national championships for the 10-and-under and 12-and-under age brackets.
For the first time, 10 and under teams competed for Southern titles.
